The Peace and Justice Committee

The Peace and Justice Committee aims to bring awareness of the ideals of peace and justice to the church members and the community at large and to actively support those ideals locally and globally. In the first year of its inception, the Committee's primary purpose was defined as:

  • Providing a safe environment for discussion,
  • Educating committee members and the congregation on issues of peace and justice, and
  • Advocating action.

These purposes have framed the committee activity ever since.

Over time, the P&JC has tackled a myriad of topics through discussion, educational events, and actions, and is open to the others that may arise. Past topics have included:

  • Racism in ourselves, our churches, and our communities
  • Voluntary simplicity and "giving `til it hurts"
  • Livable wages in Vermont
  • Concepts of Just Peace and Just War
  • Charity versus justice

The Peace and Justice Committee welcomes new members to all meetings; the committee typically meets during the first week of the month. Check the calendar for the exact time.
